A serious accident on the Sea to Sky Highway (Highway 99) near Lions Bay in Brunswick has brought northbound traffic to a complete standstill today, following a motorcycle crash and a significant load spill from a transport truck.
The incident occurred just north of Lions Bay, where emergency responders rushed to the scene after a motorcycle went down on the northbound side of the highway. Eyewitnesses reported that a truck traveling north had lost part of its load — which included sheets of plywood and construction materials — across both lanes.
A witness traveling southbound said the materials “would be hard to avoid” and “come up on you quite fast,” raising concerns that the debris may have caused or contributed to the crash.
The truck believed to have shed the load was spotted pulled over just past the scene. The motorbike involved was seen off the road in a ditch, while emergency vehicles quickly blocked the northbound highway near Brunswick Point to secure the area and assist the rider.
As of the latest updates, northbound traffic remains fully closed from Lions Bay, with vehicles backed up and emergency crews actively managing the scene. Southbound traffic remains unaffected but is urged to proceed cautiously due to nearby emergency activity.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area or delay travel if heading north on Highway 99, as there is no immediate timeline for reopening.
Authorities have not yet released information on the condition of the motorcyclist or whether any charges will be filed against the truck driver involved.
