It is with profound sorrow that we announce the heartbreaking passing of Julianna Sannino, affectionately known as JJ, a vibrant and talented student of Sacred Heart University, who left this world far too soon in April 2025.

JJ was more than just a student—she was a bright light, a passionate dancer, a dedicated mentor, and a loving friend. Hailing from Mount Kisco, New York, she brought joy and warmth to every space she entered. Her boundless energy, radiant smile, and contagious enthusiasm touched the lives of all who knew her.

At Sacred Heart University, JJ was pursuing her dreams with unwavering dedication, majoring in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Secondary Mathematics. Her academic excellence reflected in her near-perfect GPA, but her true essence lived in her heart’s mission—to serve, to guide, and to dance.

As a beloved member of the SHU Dance Company, JJ poured her soul into every movement. She had an extraordinary gift for choreography and dreamed of a future in professional dance. Her presence on stage was unforgettable, her spirit unstoppable.

Beyond her artistry, JJ was a pillar of service and leadership. From mentoring middle school students at J-Z AMP to serving as a Student Leader with the Office of Community Engagement, she embodied compassion in action. Whether coaching young swimmers, tutoring peers, or volunteering across campus, JJ led with kindness and humility.

In a statement, Sacred Heart University’s Dance Program shared,

“Julianna, affectionately known as JJ, brightened every room she entered. Her talent, kindness, and determination to dance with all of her soul will forever live in our hearts. Losing a light like JJ has sent our SHU community into a state of grief and despair. Heaven has received a beautiful angel. May JJ rest easy and always be remembered.”

JJ’s journey through Westchester Dance Academy and her time on Fox Lane High School’s Varsity Dance and Ski Teams molded a spirited and driven young woman. Her impact stretched across every team, classroom, and community she was part of.

She is survived by her loving family, countless friends, and the entire SHU community—now left with a void impossible to fill but a legacy impossible to forget.

As we mourn her loss, we remember the light she was. A soul so bright, so compassionate, and so full of promise. Rest in eternal peace, JJ. You danced through this world with grace—and your rhythm will live on in our hearts forever.
